Finally! After a year of hiatus, I was able to go hiking. Thanks to my friends in food blogging community. What started as spontaneous invite, we’re able to gather peeps who’re interested. Until we came up to the decision to hike, Mt. Mapalad in San Andres, Tanay Rizal. There’s some hiccups along the way but we’re all decided to finish what we started.
20190505_060257-018897310303591824248.jpegMt. Mapalad is a 700MASL mountain in Tanay, Rizal. Rizal is known for its mountain ranges which is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. The trail is approximately 8Ā KMĀ roundtrip from jump off to summit, which can be completed around 4-6hrs depending on your group’s pace. Unlike other Rizal mountains, there’s only a minimal part where there are limestone. Instead, what you can expect from the trail is a gradual ascend of boulder rocks and compact soil. The trail reminds me of Mt. Batulao, but with minimal loose soil. Thanks to scattered rainshowers, the soil remains intact. There’s also part where you’ll cross some rivers, but due to summer season, some areas are dry. Including the Kanabuan Falls which is dry on summer. There are established food stalls along the way and in the summit where you can buy food and water.
The summit, features a man-made structure with the shape of a palm, or “Palad” in Filipino. The structure will provide you a better view of the sea of clouds horizon. Typical to other mountains of Rizal, given the perfect weather condition, you can expect a magnificent sea of clouds. Trail wise, Mt. Mapalad is perfect for beginners because it is established with minimal use of hands. It is recommended to start the trek around 3am so that you can experience the Rizal Sunrise.
